Goodbye Fortune Shores, Hello Brisbee Downs

Hey everyone. Sad news. My game just couldn't recover after installing Apartment Life. I tried every fix known to man, but the Fortune Shores neighborhood and most recently my Harper's Cove neighborhoods just won't work with Apartment Life installed. Any new neighborhoods I have made for testing purposes seem to work fine. But my old ones don't. And like I said, I've tried everything. It broke my heart to say goodbye to Fortune Shores after 2 full years of fun, but it became a chore to sit down and try to get it to work. And I can honestly say I have no desire to package and rebuild all the sims and lots.

But don't shed too many tears, because I am starting a new neighborhood that is inspired by one of my favorite blogs, Lakeside Heights. I really enjoy the way Laura has set up her hood and the guidelines she uses to play it, and I've decided to make that my next project.

I truly appreciate all of your comments and friendships over the years at Fortune Shores, and I really hope you follow me over to my new town: Brisbee Downs. We're sure to have tons of fun together over there too! See you in Brisbee Downs!

The Leaves are Falling

The Landgraab Family
7 Fortune Drive
$134,329

Title: The Leaves are Falling

September 2008

Lot: Landgraab- Malcolm is 40, Andrea is 53, Ruby is 13, Crystal is 9,
Amber is 6, Maxwell is 2

Last Visit: A Son at Last

Summer has technically come to an end and Fall is in the air. The weather is starting to get cooler, and the Landgraab family is putting away their summer clothes and starting to break out their sweaters and jeans. Andrea encourages her kids to spend as much time outside in the nice weather while they still can.

Malcolm is still as busy as ever, and barely has time for his family. He works late hours and usually rushes out of the house without saying goodnight to his kids. But Crystal rushes out almost every night to give him a hug before he goes. Malcolm is working his way up in the crime world. He's currently a Cat Burglar and working for Ivy Linwood. She's more experienced than the other Criminal Mastermind in the 'hood (Xavier Reinhart), but Malcolm is starting to think that she's getting a little too old to keep it up. He has secret plans to take over the organization and become a Criminal Mastermind himself.

While Malcolm spends his night robbing innocent people of their hard-earned possessions, Andrea spends quiet evenings at home with the kids. She misses the days when her oldest daughter Jade lived at home. But she still has her hands full with her other 3 daughters and toddler son. Ruby is 13 now and is in the 8th grade; just one more year before she'll be in high school. Crystal is in the 4th grade, and is a sweet 9 year old. Amber is 6 years old and is the biggest tomboy you've ever seen! And little Maxwell is 2 years old and demands a lot of time and attention.

When Malcolm isn't working, he's spending time with his friends mostly. The girls are in school when he's off work, so he usually calls up Demi Go to come over and hang out. They don't seem like they would get along very well, but they're actually the best of friends. If Andrea didn't know Demi better, she'd be worried about Malcolm's relationship with her. But Demi is the sweetest lady in Fortune Shores and would never steal another woman's husband. Not like that tramp, Brandi Harris.

The Landgraabs have another tie to Demi Go as well. Demi's oldest son, Miles Berkley, is engaged to Andrea's oldest daughter, Jade. Well, everyone thinks they're still engaged. At Demi's other son's wedding, Jade was caught kissing Samuel Cox who just so happens to be Demi's daughter's fiance! Confused yet? Well, Miles is upset of course, and Jade ended up moving into a house all by herself when she graduated from college. So noone's really sure if they're still going to get married. Malcolm can't help but apologize profusely for his step-daughter's behavior.

Andrea's been telling Malcolm that he needs to spend more time with his family and less time at work and with his friends. He always let it go in one ear and out the other, until he overheard little Amber telling Demi that she hates her father because he never spends time with her.

So, Malcolm says goodbye to Demi and really makes an effort to spend some time with Amber and the rest of his kids. He helps Amber with her homework, teaches Crystal how to play the piano, and watches a movie with Ruby.

And he makes plenty of time to spend with his only son, Maxwell. Except he still can't get over how much Maxwell doesn't look like his other children. He either took completely after Andrea, or Andrea had an affair with another man. Malcolm doesn't even want to think about what the latter would do to his reputation around town, so he keeps quiet about Maxwell's lineage. The boy is awfully cute and Malcolm has always wanted a son.

Fall is not only a great time for being outdoors and spending time with family, it's also a great time for working on hobbies. Learning is just so much easier in the fall, it seems. Amber has found out that she loves sports of all kinds. And she's actually been able to get Malcolm to play catch with her in the evenings before he goes to work. That's probably why she never gets her homework done, and also why she's doing so bad in school.

And Andrea has found that she loves to cook. She's not very good at it right now, but she's trying. She can make one mean chips 'n dip platter!

Crystal isn't sure what her favorite hobby is yet, although she's tried just about everything. And as for Ruby, so far she just likes doing the typical teenage stuff. She spends hours and hours on the phone with her friends. Especially with her big sister Jade and her best friend Vance Linwood.

Speaking of Vance Linwood, when he's not hanging out at his cousin Mayer's house, he can be found hanging out at the Landgraab's. Mayer does live right next door to the Landgraab's so it's really easy for him to spend time at both houses. Ruby has no feelings whatsoever for Vance, not romantically anyway. But they're still awfully young for romance, so who knows where their relationship will end up.

A Note from Mandie: Vance Linwood sure is one popular dude! He pops up at everyone's house just to hang out. Ruby and Vance's ACR score is actually in the negative, so I doubt these two will ever get together. And Crystal doesn't like Vance either, so he's running out of luck in finding a future mate! There aren't that many other girls around his age in the 'hood! I'm trying to follow Laura's example and listen to my sims when it comes to who they want to fall in love with. I usually have mates all set in stone when the kids are born...but this time I'm just letting the sims (and ACR) tell me who wants to be with whom! We'll see how it goes!
